Tom Robertson’s September 4 story on Minnesota Public Radio, "Summer tourism numbers mixed," told about the results of EMT’s recent statewide spot survey, with Tourism Director John Edman quoted throughout.
Greg Wires, publisher of the annual Golf Minnesota directory, recently did a long and very informative interview about the features of golf in Minnesota with the hosts of "Golf Insiders," a radio program aired on ESPN affiliates in Florida.
An EMT generated news release regarding summer tourism was picked up and included in coverage on many outlets, including the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Minnesota Publis Radio, Quote.com, Dallas Morning News, Minneapolis Business Journal, MSN Money Central, KGUN TV9 Tucson, WTFV TV5 Nashville, and several others.
A story about Minnesota and Wisconsin cooperative marketing efforts and radio advertising was covered by MSN Money Central, Minneapolis Business Journal, Milwaukee Business Journal, WREX TV Rockford, The Press Enterprise in southern California, WISTV.com, and several other television outlets and websites.
"Bemidji-a Destination of Legend and Lore" was published on the www.travellady.com website as one result from writer Marilyn Loeser’s visit to Minnesota in early June.
The PGA Championship, held in August at Hazeltine National, placed Minnesota in the world’s golf spotlight once again. First hosted here in 2002 at Hazeltine, this year’s event generated extensive national coverage in America’s newspaper sports sections, a lot of talk on America’s sportstalk radio shows and event and feature coverage in publications like Golf Digest, GolfWorld and Golf magazines. Locally, the Star Tribune and St. Paul Pioneer Press published special sections as well as providing lengthy day to day coverage of the event, its participants and followers. Each local television outlet also provided day to day spot coverage and feature stories. There also was a large contingent of Asian writers and photographers, primarily here to cover a young Japanese teenage golf sensation, but ultimately achieved the Holy Grail when South Korean golfer Y.E. Yang was the eventual winner of the tournament.
