Penny Cockerell penned a story in the Sunday, July 19 edition of the Daily Oklahoman, espousing the features and benefits of Grand View Lodge and describing it as "an ideal family getaway."
Stratos magazine is a periodical for private pilots and Robert Montgomery, contributing editor, visited the Brainerd Lakes area in August 2007 to fish the waters and consult with the likes of Ted Takasaki and Babe Winkelman. His visit resulted in a six page color spread, "An Angling No Brainerd…Minnesota’s outdoor mecca dazzles sportsmen with many varieties of fish and luxurious accommodatons." A pertinent sidebar, "An Air Option," tells about Maddens On Gull Lake’s ‘Wings Over Waters Seaplane" package.
In Outside magazine’s August ‘09 edition, "Musky Hunting", Michael Perry tells about casting for the elusive prize on Lake Vermilion and other midwest waters. Ryan Krogh wrote "Minnesota Multisport" for the same issue, which also contains "Best Towns 2009-America’s Best Cities," in which Minneapolis is ranked #8 out of a top 10. In Outside’s "Best Small Towns" category, Ely gets special mention.
For the first time in a very long period, the cover of the St. Paul Pioneer Press’ travel section (August 9, 2009) carries two Minnesota-themed stories. Above the fold, "Go North…Duluth is the starting point for a scenic and tasty trip along the North Shore" by Donna Tabbert Long. Across the bottom of the cover page, Jessica Leigh Rosier wrote "To explore Voyageurs National Park, you need to get on the water." Both items were also carried on www.twincities.com
The July 28, 2009 edition of Away.com’s e-newsletter "Your Daily Escape" features ‘Minnesota’s Boundary Waters,’ with a list of sidebars to click to: "Boundary Waters Canoe Area Parks & Outdoors Travel Tips" by Brian Kevin; "Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness" by Robert Beymer; "Boundary Waters-Paddling the Gunflint Area," by Robert Beymer which concludes with "Trip Tips-Taking the Kids."
Molly Logan Anderson posted "The last hurrah: 10 fun family activities to end the summer the right way" on www.norwichbulletin.com August 12, 2009. Among those ten is "Mall Madness," telling about MOA’s Nickelodeon theme park, Underwater World, Silicon Speedway, the American Girl store and more.
Dr. Jessie Voigts of www.wanderingeducators.com has generated several items since visiting the Twin Cities in May of this year. She recently posted three more on the site, "World Premiere of Bert & Ernie, Goodnight!", "5 World Premieres at Stages Theatre Company", and "Stages Theatre Company & Theatre Royal Bath – International Exchange."
The July-August 2009 edition of FamilyTimesInc.com has "Let’s Go! Easy and inexpensive Minnesota Vacations," written by Kristin Moorhead. It includes regional recommendations on things to do in our state.
The August 7 USA Today published a story and photo about the Red Wing Shoe Museum.
