ST. PAUL, MN (October 2, 2008) Visitors to MSP International Airport will get a true taste of Minnesota upon their arrival in Minneapolis Saint Paul, whether they are traveling across the state, attending a downtown conference or just passing through on a connecting flight to their final destination. That’s because some 72 photos of Minnesota, which were originally erected to greet the 45,000 visitors who came to attend the Republican National Convention September 1-4, will remain on display indefinitely.

The photo project is a joint effort of the Airport Foundation MSP, the Metropolitan Airports Commission and Explore Minnesota Tourism, the organization which provided the photos. The display of images which range from 4 x 3 feet to 3 x 2 feet, depicts the diversity of Minnesota’s scenic landscapes ranging from Superior’s North Shore to the Mississippi River Bluffs in southeastern Minnesota to the corn fields and plains in the southwest to popular metropolitan area icons such as the Cathedral of Saint Paul and the Wiessman Museum. The photos are on display along the G Concourse as well as in the seating area above Ike’s Restaurant in North Star Crossing. Airport Foundation officials are enthusiastic about the project.

"Our mission is to enhance the experience of visitors to MSP International Airport," said Jana Vaughn, executive director of Airport Foundation MSP. "What better way to do that than by showcasing some of Minnesota’s most stunning scenery? We’ve received rave reviews from the traveling public about the photos, and hope to continue working with tourism officials to showcase Minnesota destinations."

"We’re happy to partner with the Airport Foundation MSP on this project," said John Edman, Director of Explore Minnesota Tourism. "We know that once visitors get a taste of Minnesota, they’re likely to come back for more. Our goal is to get out-of-state visitors to travel throughout the state to experience more of what Minnesota has to offer, and photos like these are sure to whet their appetite. It’s a win-win situation for all of us."

The two organizations plan to join together on future projects as well. They are currently working on designing a series of banners touting special events or attractions throughout the state that will be installed along the roadway leading into the airport from I-494.

The Airport Foundation MSP is a unique, nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the experience and exceeding the expectations of travelers at MSP International Airport, as well as supporting the airport and aviation community.
